Description

This Paired Texts unit in print and digital for Google Classroom™ (and other top educational platforms) targets reading comprehension using two different passages, (one fiction and one nonfiction) on the same themed topic. This packet is loaded with 8 passages (4 sets of paired texts) including 2 historical (Revolutionary War Spies), 2 scientific (Kangaroos), 2 biographical (Astronauts), and 2 technical pieces (Skywriting).

Each passage has comprehension questions that target a variety of reading strategies including main idea, theme, cause and effect, and more. There’s a vocabulary practice page for each set which includes Latin/Greek roots, synonyms and antonyms, matching, and more. There are also double-sided paired text worksheets that ask questions requiring the student to refer to both texts, to analyze, and combine information to formulate answers. Plus, there are three writing prompts (narrative, expository, and persuasive) for each set. Rigorous for sure, but absolutely engaging topics your kids will enjoy!
